Sushila Deoja

Sushila Deoja

SUSHILA DEOJA, born (to father Tunga Dhoj Khand and mother Laxmi Devi Khand) in Doti, a district in the far western region of Nepal, is a renowned Nepali writer. Gifted with a keen sense of perception since childhood, along with an ability to capture her observations via writing, the author, being of a shy nature, mostly kept her writings to herself until she decided to publish an article while attending college. In that moment, the reserved author felt a sense of liberation having had the opportunity to momentary come out of her shell. This sensation would be something she would draw upon at a much later age to kick-start her career as a writer. While Sushila has explored various genres in her writing, her readership identifies with and appreciates her ability to pick out the unmentioned characters and overlooked stories in society and paint for us intertwined and very Nepali life experiences undergone by them, thus humanizing their current state of existence and giving us, dwellers of the city and society at large, a new lens by which to view the same every day. Sushila holds a degree in psychology and has published ten books to-date with an additional two undergoing final editing for publication in the very near future. Sushila's works such as "Progeny"; a collection of short stories capturing the various life experience of the Nepalese diaspora, have been translated to English and published in the U.S., while some of her children'sstories have been translated and published in China. For "Bagh and Baba", she attained the "Durga Devi Excellent Child Literature Writer" award. Sushila considers literature to be an integral part of her life as well as a real priority.
